Learn About Our History
Founded in 1930, the Progressive Club was involved in many early projects that served the community. The club:
- Established the Cemetery Foundation who coordinated the village cemetery on land donated by the Brown family.
- Helped to establish the McCall Public Library, which started with a few shelves in an abandoned lady's restroom of a garage.
- Actively participated in the early McCall Winter Carnivals by building floats for the parade, making ice sculptures and timing races.
- Planted flowers in the spring and summer in parks and barrels along the main streets.
- Promoted landscaping of City parks, financed the City park sprinkler system in the 1960's, and was integral in the formation of Art Roberts Park.
- Purchased band uniforms for the high school in 1969.
- Contributed to establishing the Memorial Hospital which is now St. Luke's McCall.
- Supported the Girl Scouts over many years which included giving scholarships for attendance to Camp by the Lake.
- Continues to give annual competitive scholarship awards to graduating seniors from McCall-Donnelly, Meadows Valley and Heartland High Schools.
- Continues to award grants annually to deserving philanthropies.
