About the Progressive Club:
This women’s philanthropic and public service club was founded in 1930 and continues to this day with the same goals of supporting the quality of life in McCall. The Progressive Club was involved in many early projects that served the community. The club established the Cemetery Foundation who coordinated the village cemetery on land donated by the Brown family. The club helped to establish the McCall Public Library, which started with a few shelves in an abandoned lady's restroom of a garage. The club was active in the early McCall Winter Carnivals by building floats for the parade, making ice sculptures and timing races. In the spring and summer, the club planted flowers in parks and barrels along the main streets. The club promoted landscaping of City parks, financed the City park sprinkler system in the 1960's, and was integral in the formation of Art Roberts Park. The club purchased band uniforms for the high school in 1969.The club contributed to establishing the Memorial Hospital which is now St. Luke's McCall. The club supported the Girl Scouts over many years which included giving scholarships for attendance to Camp by the Lake. The club continues to give annual competitive scholarship awards to graduating seniors from McCall-Donnelly, Meadows Valley and Heartland High Schools.
